From Key Biscayne to Cutler Ridge, this F0 tornado ran 15.0 miles across Florida on September 24, 1998, touching down at 8:08 AM CDT and reaching 40 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. F4207 to 260 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. F5261 to 318 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

What the Weather Service recorded

Radar indicated tornadic signature was indicated offshore cutler ridge embedded in a spiral band of hurricane Georges. As the TVS passed near the Fowey Rocks C-MAN wind from 080 degrees gusting to 67 knots was recorded at 0813 pm est. The waterspout continued moving to the southwest and moved onshore near Old Cutler Road and SW 184th st. Most of the resulting damaged was downed powerlines and trees. Some damage was done to homes and automobiles as a result of the downed trees.
