   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

2. EF186 to 110 mph

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mph

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

• Debris field. Heavy truss moved across road. No damage to power lines or trees from opposite side.
• More of the debris field. Some tin noticed in tree. Witness says tin rolled and was not lofted to any significance.
• Failure point of heavy truss location. 6x6 posts. Witness said his ears popped.
• Similar structure as heavy truss in debris field that was moved across the road from this location.

Several supercell thunderstorms developed ahead of a QLCS in advance of a cold front. One supercell produced three weak tornadoes, with another QLCS producing a weak tornado. Training thunderstorms resulted in many instances of flash flooding and river flooding, with three flash flood fatalities occurring in Tuscaloosa County.

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed damage in northern Hale County and determined that it was consistent with an EF0 tornado, with maximum winds near 80 mph. The tornado began just west of Highway 69 near County Road 52. It caused damage to the roof of a barn and a business along Highway 69. The tornado also uprooted numerous trees with at least two falling on a home and manufactured home. The tornado continued northeastward, crossing Industrial Drive and damaging homes on Azalea Lane. Splatter was observed on the east side of two homes at the end of Azalea Lane. The tornado then crossed County Road 50, uprooting a few more trees before crossing County Line Road and into Tuscaloosa County.

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed damage in far southern Tuscaloosa County and determined that it was consistent with an EF0 tornado, with maximum winds near 70 mph. This tornado formed in Hale County and crossed into Tuscaloosa County at County Line Road. The tornado continued northeast and dissipated near Sagebrush Drive, producing mostly broken tree branches.
