1. EF065 to 85 mph

   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

2. EF186 to 110 mphthis tornado

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mph

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

A powerful spring storm system, including a deepening surface low and a strong cold front, brought widespread severe weather to central Alabama. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and 8 tornadoes were reported across the area.

The tornado that started in Tallapoosa County crossed into Lee County near Moss Flat Road, before it lifted near Lee Road 217 and Cane Creek. Its brief path in Lee County produced only light damage.

The tornado touched down just west of the town of Loachapoka along CR-64. It then moved through Loachapoka, and nearly paralleled AL-14 for several miles, before lifting just south of AL-14 east of CR-51. Hundreds of trees were snapped off and uprooted along the path. In Loachapoka, a church sustained moderate roof damage, several barns and outbuildings suffered varying degrees of damage, and a few vehicles were damaged by the fallen trees.

The tornado touched down south of the Beauregard community, just west of AL-51. It then traveled southeast for just over two miles, lifting near CR-42. The most significant damage occurred near CR-758, where a mobile home received damage, a few other structures suffered roof damage and several trees and power lines were either snapped off or were uprooted.

35 minutes of warning. NWS BMX issued a tornado warning for this county at 23:55 UTC, 35 minutes before the tornado touched down, in force until 01:00 UTC.

The county was under a tornado watch, issued at 23:47 UTC and running to 03:33 UTC.

The Storm Prediction Center had this point in a Moderate Risk, with a 0.15 chance of a tornado within 25 miles, in the hatched area where significant tornadoes were expected. The outlook in force was issued at 18:45 UTC.
