* WHAT...For the Beach Hazards Statement, a high risk of rip currents is expected. For the Coastal Flood Watch, one to two feet of inundation above ground level possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...Virginia Beach. * WHEN...For the Beach Hazards Statement, from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. For the Coastal Flood Watch, from Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated. Significant shoreline erosion and overwash is likely.
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.

Predictions are astronomical. They account for the moon and the sun, not the weather: onshore wind, low air pressure and high river flow hold the water above the prediction, offshore wind and high pressure hold it below.

Spring tides, the largest ranges of the month, follow the new and full moon by a day or two. Neap tides, the smallest, follow the quarter moons.
