Chenango River at Oxford

1. 22.51 ftThe Village of Oxford was severely inundated during the record flood of June 2006. Flooding puts excessive strain on the levee system protecting the east side of the village. Several locations along Route 12 were flooded, including at the intersection of North Washington and State Route 220. Main Street was flooded by water flowing back from Merchant Street. Canal Street was fully inundated from the hardware store to the Blue Ox property.
2. 21.76 ftThe Village of Oxford was severely inundated during the Tropical Storm Lee flood of 2011. Several locations along Route 12 were flooded, including at the intersection of North Washington and State Route 220. Main Street was flooded by water flowing back from Merchant Street. Canal Street was inundated from the hardware store to the Blue Ox property.
3. 20.00 ftFlooding affects the railroad tracks, Greene Street, and begins affecting parts of Albany Street from Merchant to Pleasant Street. Water floods South Washington Avenue in several areas and Lafayette Park. The Fort Hill Park area is cut off by flooding.
4. 18.00 ftMechanic, Water and Merchant Streets and homes are flooded. Flooding inundates lower floors of the Oxford Academy buildings. Water inundates parts of Route 12 from downtown to South Washington Avenue. The Oxford police department begins to flood.
5. 17.00 ftFlood waters affect properties on Mechanic and Water Streets. Basement flooding may begin.
6. 16.50 ftFlooding affects the Oxford Academy athletic fields and parking lots. The park off North Canal Street is inundated. The properties along North Canal Street, north of Main Street begin to flood.
7. 14.00 ftThe river floods much of the natural floodplain. No identified hazards to life and property unless unnecessary risks are taken in flooded zones. Village officials increase monitoring and mitigation activities.
