This flooding was not caused by heavy rain, but by storm surge moving up along the Kuskokwim River into the intertidal zone. The community of Tuntutuliak experienced major flooding due to the surge flowing up into the Kuskokwim River channel, with the worst flooding observed near the time of normal high tide on the morning of October 12th. Based on early high water survey data conducted by the Department of Geological and Geophysical Survey, water levels reached several feet above the normal high tide height in Tuntutuliak, similar to what was observed father upstream along the Kuskokwim River. The Alaska State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) reported that multiple homes were moved from their foundations by water and that an unknown volume of waste oil was spilled from a service station in the community as a result of the water inundation.

The Golovin AWOS (PAGL) reported strong southeasterly winds that persisted throughout the day, with sustained speeds of 50 to 55 mph and gusts around 65 mph. The strongest wind gust measured at the Golovin site was 68 mph on October 12th at 0714AKST. Further east, a peak gust of 76 mph was measured at the Shaktoolik AWOS site (PFSH) at 0856AKST. At the Elim Airport AWOS station (PFEL), a wind gust of 61 mph was measured at 0738AKST. Winds gusted to 81 mph at the St. Michael AWOS station (PAMK) at 0929AKST. A wind gust of 72 mph was recorded at the Unalakleet AWOS site (PAUN) at 1104AKST. Reports obtained from social media included damage to the roofs and siding of multiple structures, including the Unalakleet Post Office. The porch and roof of one residential structure was destroyed. A fence was blown over. There were also reports of airborne debris.

A best track is the record a warning agency settles on after the storm, not what it said at the time: position, maximum sustained wind and central pressure every six hours, revised against every observation that came in later. Category is the Saffir-Simpson scale, which runs from Category 1 at 64 kt to Category 5 at 137 kt and reads wind only, so it says nothing about surge or rain. Accumulated cyclone energy adds up the square of the wind through the storm's life, so it counts strength and duration together.
