Longshore currents can push swimmers into deeper water unexpectedly, making them more susceptible to dangerous rip currents. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Beach and surf conditions will remain dangerous through at least Thursday due to Tropical Cyclone Helene. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and piers.
