...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY
NIGHT...

* WHAT...Rough choppy surf and a southward flowing longshore
  current with a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents in the 
  surf zone exists today. 

* WHERE...Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal Saint 
  Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern 
  Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard and 
  Southern Brevard Barrier Islands Counties.

* WHEN...Through late Wednesday night.

* IMPACTS...Breezy northeast winds will produce a moderate 
  southward flowing longshore current today, which can push 
  swimmers into deeper water unexpectedly, and make them more 
  susceptible to dangerous rip currents.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

* WHAT...For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents 
  expected. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 
  5 to 13 feet expected in the surf zone. For the Coastal Flood 
  Watch, significant coastal flooding possible.

* WHERE...Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal Saint 
  Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern 
  Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard and 
  Southern Brevard Barrier Islands Counties.

* WHEN...For the High Rip Current Risk, through this evening. 
  For the High Surf Advisory, from 10 PM this evening to 1 PM 
  EST Saturday. For the Coastal Flood Watch, from late tonight 
  through Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Low lying property including homes, businesses and
  some critical infrastructure may be inundated. Shoreline erosion
  may occur. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
  localized beach erosion at time of high tide. Rip currents can 
  sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Conditions favorable for coastal flooding are expected to
develop. Coastal residents should be alert for later statements
or warnings and take necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.

High surf will affect the beaches in the advisory area, producing
localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.
Swimmers should remain out of the water due to large breaking
waves and dangerous surf conditions.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.
