Precipitation will likely start off as freezing rain and sleet, and then transition over to snow this evening. A swath of one tenth to one quarter of an inch of ice accumulation is possible from roughly Redwood County through Kanabec, Chisago, & Polk Counties. Additionally, two to four inches of snow is also possible across these area, and a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the combined impacts of ice and snow. Lesser snow and ice totals to the northwest and southwest of this swath will still cause minor travel impacts, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. This includes Carver, Hennepin, and Anoka counties in the Twin Cities metro area. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Scott and Dakota counties in Minnesota to Barron county in Wisconsin through 6am as well. A band of very heavy snow, with snowfall rates at times exceeding 2 inches per hour is moving into the eastern Twin Cities metro area early this morning. This band of snow is expected to put down a quick 3 to 5 inches of snow within the warning area. In the advisory to the east, this snow band is expected to weaken, with snow amounts in the advisory expected to be in the 1 to 3 inch range. This heavy snow is falling on top of a slush from last night that is freezing up. This will result in treacherous travel conditions the rest of the night front the Twin Cities to the northeast and east through rest of tonight.
