* At 1010 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a persistent area of heavy
rainfall from Ararat NC to near Dugsput VA, including Pilot
Mountain, Ararat NC, Ararat VA, and Mt. Airy. This includes
portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway from east of Fancy Gap to
Groundhog Mountain. Additional rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.5
inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing
or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

At 1129 PM EDT, Heavy rainfall continues in a north-south oriented
band from near Ararat NC to Mt. Airy NC to near Laurel Fork.
Rainfall within this region during the past couple of hours has
ranged from 3 to 5 inches. Flooding of some streets has been
reported by the Surry County 911 Center in Mt. Airy and Ararat.
Additional flooding and flash flooding is likely as heavy rain
continues on totally saturated ground. Flash flooding is imminent.

MORNING FOR NORTHEASTERN SURRY, SOUTHEASTERN CARROLL, SOUTHWESTERN
FLOYD AND SOUTHWESTERN PATRICK COUNTIES...
At 1207 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that excessive rainfall on
the order of 3 to 5 or more inches has fallen in the last 3 to 4
hours from Laurel Fork and Groundhog Mountain to Mt. Airy NC to
Pilot Mountain NC and finally to Ararat NC. Rainfall has diminished
in eastern Surry County NC, but continues moderate to heavy in
eastern Carroll and western Patrick County VA. Additional rainfall
amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area, especially
in eastern Carroll and western Patrick County. Flash flooding is
imminent! Small creeks and streams could quickly rise to bankful and
above rapidly flooding any adjacent areas.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. Mudslides and land
slides in areas of steep terrain are possible.

At 144 AM EDT, Rainfall of 4 to 5.5 or more inches fell in the
warned area during the last six hours, much of which fell in the
last three hours. Flash flooding and flooding has been observed in
the area. While rainfall has decreased in the warned area, excessive
runoff from the excessive rain during the past several hours will
continue. Flash flooding remains imminent, especially near any
creeks, streams, or rivers.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

At 300 AM EDT, Rainfall has decreased considerably during the last
hour or so within the warned area. However, 4 to 6 inches of rain
fell across much of eastern Surry County, including Mt. Airy, Pilot
Mountain, Ararat, Groundhog Mountain, and Laurel Fork. Additional
rainfall in the next several hours is expected to be 1 inch or less.
However, considerable flooding has been reported in the eastern part
of Surry county since midnight. The Ararat River is near flood at
Ararat. Flooding and flash flooding remains likely.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
