The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Douglas County in western Nevada...
* Until 815 PM PDT.
* At 517 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across portions of Douglas County east of Gardnerville
over the Numbers and Monarch Burn scar. Between 1 and 2 inches of
rain have fallen based on radar estimates. Flash flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow
moving through the in drainages coming off the Numbers and Monarch
Burn scars. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and
other loose materials.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
drainage and low lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Portions of Douglas County east of Highway 395 and Gardnerville.
Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned
area.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry stream beds is likely. The heavy
rains will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in
steep terrain, especially in and around these areas.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

EVENING FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY...
At 555 PM PDT, Radar shows new storm formation in the vicinity of
the Numbers Fire burn scar, just southeast of Gardnerville, and east
of Johnson Lane. Flooding is possible in drainages coming off the
Numbers Fire scar in areas east of Highway 395. Additional spot
flooding is possible in drainages east and southeast of Johnson Lane
from new storms in that area.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

EVENING FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY...
At 708 PM PDT, Radar indicated that most of the heavy thunderstorms
have dissipated over the Numbers and Monarch burn scars. However a
few storms remain in the vicinity, including storms near
Gardnerville. These storms could still result in flooding in
normally prone low spots near Gardnerville, with flows from earlier
heavy rains still coming down drainages from the Numbers and Monarch
burn scar.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
drainage and low lying areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
