...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...Southern Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, 
  Coastal Volusia and Northern Brevard Counties.

* WHEN...Through 600 PM this evening.

* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away 
  from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While dangerous rip currents will be
  present all day, the greatest threat will occur through 1230 PM
  this afternoon due to tidal effects. In addition, moderate
  swells will produce breaking waves of 4 to 5 feet.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Because of the rough surf and high rip current risk, 
entering the water is not recommended today. Heed the advice of 
lifeguards, beach patrol flags and signs.
