...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Rough surf and a Moderate threat for dangerous rip
  currents.

* WHERE...Southern Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, 
  Coastal Volusia and Northern Brevard Counties.

* WHEN...Through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Building swells will produce breaking waves to around
  5 feet in the surf zone. The moderate swells could knock
  swimmers off their feet and make them more susceptible to
  becoming caught in a rip current. Weak swimmers may not want to
  enter the water above their knees.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The threat for rip currents will be highest
  between 1130 AM and 530 PM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
