...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OBSERVED ACROSS THE SOUTHERN 
COASTAL PLAINS OF PUERTO RICO...

.The combination of a drier than normal air mass, very dry soils
and vegetation, as well as strong winds resulted in critical fire
weather conditions across these areas, which are expected to
continue through this afternoon.

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM AST THIS EVENING FOR 
FIRE WEATHER ZONES 014 AND 027...

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect until 6 PM AST this evening. 

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire weather zone 014 and 027.

* WIND...15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. 

* HUMIDITY...35-40 percent across the southeast coastal plains.

* THUNDERSTORMS...None

* HIGHEST THREAT...South central to southeast coastal plains of 
  Puerto Rico, between Ponce and Patillas, including portions of 
  Coamo.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. 
  Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
