The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
The island of Maui in Maui County
* Until 1230 AM HST.
* At 1005 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over East Maui, from
Haiku to Hana to Kaupo, which includes the area upslope of the
Kaupakalua Dam. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per
hour and area streams are on the rise. Oheo Gulch has risen above
a level that can produce serious flash flooding along the slopes
of Haleakala from Hamao to Kipahulu. Flash flooding is occurring
or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are
possible in steep terrain.

Kipahulu, Keanae, Kula, Nahiku, Kaupo, Makawao, Pukalani, Keokea,
Huelo, Haliimaile, Haiku-Pauwela, Hana, Pauwela, Paia, Haleakala

FOR THE ISLAND OF MAUI IN MAUI COUNTY...
At 1108 PM HST, radar continued to indicate heavy rain over East
Maui, from Haiku to Hana to Kaupo, which includes the area upslope
of the Kaupakalua Dam. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches
per hour and area streams are running very high. Oheo Gulch remains
at a level that can produce serious flash flooding along the slopes
of Haleakala from Hamao to Kipahulu. Additional heavy rainfall is
developing just offshore East Maui, and is expected to move onshore
during the next couple hours.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

The island of Maui in Maui County
* Until 330 AM HST.
* At 1220 AM HST, radar continued to indicate heavy rain over East
Maui, from Haiku to Hana to Kaupo, which includes the area upslope
of the Kaupakalua Dam. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches
per hour and area streams are running very high. Oheo Gulch
remains at a level that has produced serious flash flooding along
the slopes of Haleakala from Hamoa to Kipahulu in the past.
Additionally, Hanawi Stream has risen to a level that has produced
flooding along the Hana Highway near Nahiku in the past. Heavy
rainfall continues to develop just offshore East Maui and is
expected to move onshore in the next couple of hours.

MORNING FOR THE ISLAND OF MAUI IN MAUI COUNTY...
At 208 AM HST, radar continued to indicate heavy rain over East
Maui. The heaviest rain was falling from Haiku to Hana to Kipahulu,
with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in the heaviest
showers. Heavy rain is also falling upslope of the Kaupakalua Dam
and along a large stretch of the Hana Highway. Area streams are
running very high as well. Heavy rainfall continues to develop just
offshore of East Maui, and may move onshore and affect locations
that have already received significant rainfall during the next hour
or two.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

The heavy rain has diminished and area streams are slowly receding.
Due to the heavy rainfall earlier, minor flooding of low lying and
poor drainage areas may continue for the next few hours. Significant
flooding however, is no longer expected to pose a threat. Please
continue to heed remaining road closures.
A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 600 AM HST Wednesday.
