154 WWUS43 KDLH 100941 WSWDLH URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Duluth MN 341 AM CST Wed Mar 10 2021 ...QUICK-HITTING WINTER STORM TONIGHT... .An area of low pressure will lift northeastward from the South Dakota/Nebraska border this morning to northeast Ontario by noon Thursday. The system will bring gusty winds, rain, freezing rain, and snow to the Northland. Snow may begin falling over portions of central Minnesota this afternoon and, with the high sun angle in mid-March, accumulation should be limited to grassy and elevated surfaces before sunset. Snow, which may be heavy at times, along with freezing rain are expected this evening changing to all snow overnight. The heaviest snow accumulation should stretch from near Leader through the Arrowhead with a swath of 3 to 8 inches expected. Freezing rain and snow will affect portions of far northern Wisconsin overnight. Strong winds of 10 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph are possible this afternoon and evening over much of central and east-central Minnesota, including the Twin Ports, and over portions of northwest Wisconsin. Sporadic power outages are possible due to the high winds and precipitation accumulation on tree branches and power lines.
