The heaviest accumulations will focus across the eastern slopes of the central mountain chain beginning this evening where 12 to 18 inches are expected over the highest peaks. Strong winds in the wake of a cold front combined with the heavy snow will create significant reductions in visibility and areas of drifting snow. The greatest accumulations of snow will be focused on the higher peaks and east slopes of the central mountains, where over a foot of snow has already been reported. Additional snow accumulations up to 4 inches are anticipated, particularly over northeast New Mexico as well as the southwest and south central mountains. Wind speeds are starting to weaken, but reduced visibilities below one mile are still possible.
