...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH
8 PM THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Volusia
  Counties.

* WHEN...From 8 AM this morning through 8 PM this evening. While 
  rip currents will be present all day, the threat will be highest
  after 2 PM due to tidal effects.

* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away 
  from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be sure to check with local officials
  regarding any beach closures that might be in effect for your
  county or community.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
