Large waves can knock you down and make you more susceptible to being caught in a rip current. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you do decide to enter the water today, swim only within sight of a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a northward direction following the shoreline. Do not try to swim south to escape a rip current today, as you will be swimming directly into the long shore current!
