...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...Strong southward flowing ocean current will parallel the
  beach. Also, a Moderate Risk of life-threatening rip currents
  exists at area beaches.

* WHERE...Southern Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, 
  Coastal Volusia and Northern Brevard Counties.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Longshore currents can knock swimmers off the sandbar
  into deeper water and make them more susceptible to rip 
  currents.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Swim only within sight of a lifeguard and
  never try to swim directly against currents that occur at the
  beaches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
