A longshore current flows parallel to the beach and can be strong enough to knock you off the sandbar into deep water. * WHERE...Southern Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, Coastal Volusia and Northern Brevard Counties. * WHEN...From 7 AM EST this morning through this afternoon. * IMPACTS...The rough surf can knock you down and make you more susceptible to being caught in the seaward pull of a Rip Current. Rip currents are also likely near piers, jetties and reefs today. If you must enter the chilly surf only do so near a lifeguard and never swim alone. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. && $$
