...FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR THE ISLAND OF KAUAI...
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
The island of Kauai in Kauai County
* Until 930 AM HST.
* At 625 AM HST, radar indicated nearly stationary heavy rainfall
across much of the island of Kauai. Rain was falling at a rate of
3 to 5 inches per hour. Flash flooding is already occurring as
streams have already reached flood stage.
THIS IS A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR THE ISLAND OF KAUAI
HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Severe flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low lying areas. Numerous public
road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep
terrain. Significant property damage expected to homes
and other properties in low lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include the entire of
Kauai.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Move to higher ground now! This is an extremely dangerous and
life-threatening situation.
Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle, or on foot. Find an
alternate route. Turn around, don't drown.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 930 AM HST if heavy rain
persists.

KAUAI IN KAUAI COUNTY...
At 731 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rainfall continued across north
through east portions of the island of Kauai at the rate of 2 to 4
inches per hour. Heavy rainfall also continues within a thunderstorm
just southeast of Lihue. Bridges across the Hanalei and Wailua
rivers remain closed either to high water or to debris dams.

Kauai has diminished, but Kauai Civil Defense continues to report
that the bridges across the Hanalei and Wailua rivers remain
closed due either to high water or debris dams.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.

Heavy rain has diminished across the island of Kauai and the Flash
Flood Warning for Kauai is cancelled. While additional flash
flooding is no longer expected to pose an immediate threat, Kauai
Emergency Management reports that the Kuhio Highway bridge across
the Hanalei River remains closed.
A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the island of Kauai
through 6 am HST Sunday.
