...ANOTHER MAJOR WINTER STORM POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND...

.A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday evening through 
Saturday morning north of a line from Canby, Minnesota, to Red Wing, 
Minnesota; and from Friday evening through Sunday morning north of a 
line from Morris, Minnesota, to Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Snow, rain, and freezing drizzle will develop Friday afternoon 
before transitioning to mostly snow Friday night. Temperatures will 
warm Saturday, allowing the snow to turn to a mix of rain and snow 
or all rain south of Morris to Eau Claire. This transition should 
allow conditions to improve quickly. North of that line, it appears 
snow will be the likely precipitation type from Friday night through 
Sunday morning. Significant amounts of snow could accumulate in 
these areas, possibly over a foot, especially north of I-94. Gusty 
east winds Friday night and early Saturday may produce some patchy 
blowing snow as well.

Meanwhile, a light snow will lift across southwest Minnesota this 
afternoon, and could transition to freezing drizzle Thursday night
into Friday morning. A light glazing of ice could lead to slick
roads and difficult travel. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect
across southwest Minnesota from late Thursday evening through
Friday morning.

...MAJOR WINTER STORM LIKELY THIS WEEKEND...

.A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Friday evening
through Saturday morning north of a line from Canby, Minnesota,
to Red Wing, Minnesota; and from Friday evening through Sunday
morning north of a line from Morris, Minnesota, to Eau Claire,
Wisconsin.

Snow, rain, and freezing drizzle will develop late Friday
afternoon before transitioning to mostly snow Friday night. 
Temperatures will warm Saturday, allowing the snow to turn to a 
mix of rain and snow or to all rain south of Morris to Eau Claire.
This transition should allow conditions to improve quickly, 
following a few inches of accumulation. The rain will turn back to
snow Saturday night and Sunday with additional accumulating snow.
North of that line, it appears snow will be the likely 
precipitation type from Friday night through Sunday morning, 
although periods of freezing rain are also possible. Significant 
amounts of snow could accumulate in these areas, possibly over a 
foot. Some light ice accumulation is also possible. Gusty east 
winds Friday night and early Saturday may produce some patchy 
blowing snow as well.

Meanwhile, areas of freezing drizzle will develop tonight and
Friday. A light glazing of ice could lead to slick roads and
difficult travel. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across
southwest Minnesota from late tonight through Friday morning.

...8 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW EXPECTED ACROSS CENTRAL MINNESOTA 
NORTHERN MINNESOTA AND NORTHERN WISCONSIN THIS WEEKEND...

.A Winter Storm Warning is in effect tonight through Sunday 
morning for areas along and north of a line from Ladysmith 
Wisconsin to Rice Lake Wisconsin to St Cloud Minnesota to Morris 
Minnesota. Snow is expected to start after midnight tonight. A 
total of 8 to 12 inches is possible by the time the snow ends 
Sunday morning. Gusty east winds of 30 to 40 mph could lead to 
patchy blowing snow as well.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for areas just to the south
along a line from Eau Claire Wisconsin through Menomonie 
Wisconsin to the Twin Cities and Hutchinson and Canby Minnesota. 
We expect a few inches of snow Friday night, and a few more inches
of snow Saturday night. The uncertainty lies on Saturday, where 
we could see a transition to a wintry mix or rain. If we 
transition to rain, then total snowfall accumulation will only be 
4 to 6 inches. If we end up being cooler and have more snow, then 
snowfall amounts will be higher. Given the uncertainty, will 
continue with a winter storm watch for these areas.

Meanwhile, areas of freezing drizzle are possible in southwest
Minnesota Friday morning. A light glazing of ice could lead to 
slick roads and difficult travel. A Winter Weather Advisory is in 
effect across southwest Minnesota through Friday morning.
