...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...
...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM EST THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a High Rip
Current Risk, which is in effect through this evening. A Beach
Hazards Statement has also been issued. This Beach Hazards
Statement for minor beach erosion is in effect from 9 AM EST this
morning through this afternoon. 

* TIMING...Life threatening rip currents will be present all day.
  High tide around 1 pm am will produce minor beach erosion. 

* LOCATION...east central Florida beaches.

* IMPACTS...Large, long period swells will propagate into the surf
  zone and produce rough surf and a High Risk for rip currents,
  posing a threat to all levels of swimmers. Entering the surf is
  not advised. Minor Beach erosion will occur due to wave runup to
  the dune line around the times of high tide. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
