...Increasing Threat For Minor Coastal Flooding Early This Week...

A long period swell of up to 17 seconds generated by distant, but
large and powerful Hurricane Lorenzo over the central Atlantic
will build into the central Florida Atlantic surf zone early this
week. These swells will combine with increasing onshore winds and
chop, as well as the "King Tides", or highest astronomical tides
of the year, to increase the potential for minor coastal flooding
around the times of high tides for several days. High tides will
average around one foot above normal through mid day Wednesday.

...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING POSSIBLE FOR SEVERAL HIGH TIDE CYCLES
TODAY AND CONTINUING THIS WEEK...

* COASTAL FLOODING...Wave runup from a combination of large swells from
  distant Hurricane Lorenzo and high astronomical tides may cause
  water to overtop or breach the dunes in some locations. 

* COASTAL FLOODING TIMING...The threat will be highest today with
  this morning's high tide cycle, which will occur between 930 AM
  and 1000 AM. The next several high tide cycles are...
 
     Tonight between 1000 PM and 1030 PM 
     Tuesday morning between 1030 AM and 1100 AM 
     Tuesday night between 1045 PM and 1115 PM 
     Wednesday morning between 1115 AM and 1145 AM

* RIP CURRENTS...Ocean conditions will produce strong rip currents
  in the surf zone, posing a threat to all levels of swimmers.
  Entering the surf is not advised. 

* RIP CURRENTS TIMING...While life-threatening rip currents will
  be present all day, the threat will be highest during the hours
  surrounding low tide, which will be from 1 PM to 7 PM this
  afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The threats for minor beach erosion and dangerous rip
  currents will also increase early this week as winds, seas and
  surf increase. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim 
against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the 
shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave 
for help.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Wave runup from a combination of large swells
  from distant Hurricane Lorenzo and high astronomical tides may
  cause water to breach eroded dunes in some locations. Some 
  lowlands along the intracoastal waterways may also experience 
  minor flooding near the times of high tide.

* COASTAL FLOODING TIMING...The threat will be highest around the
  times of high tide through Wedensday morning.
 
     Tonight between 1000 PM and 1030 PM 
     Tuesday morning between 1030 AM and 1100 AM 
     Tuesday night between 1045 PM and 1115 PM 
     Wednesday morning between 1115 AM and 1145 AM

* IMPACTS...Minor coastal flooding is possible. The swells will
  also produce a high rip current risk into mid week. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A coastal flood statement is issued when minor coastal flooding is
possible near the coast and along low areas near the intracoastal
waterways, especially around the times of high tide. 

A high rip current risk is expected into mid week. Always remember
to swim near a lifeguard at the beach.
