...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a High Rip
Current Risk, which is in effect through this evening. 

* TIMING...The rip current threat will be HIGH along the beaches
  of east central Florida today. The threat will be highest from
  9:30 AM this morning through 4:30 PM this afternoon due to the
  effects of low tide. The next low tide will occur around 1:30 PM  
  this afternoon. 

* IMPACTS...A small but very long period swell will continue to
  impact the east Florida coast today that will generate life
  threatening rip currents. Surf conditions will appear quite
  tranquil as a light onshore breeze limits the amount of short
  period wind chop, making today's threat all the more
  treacherous. Beach goers are urged to check with beach patrol 
  for local conditions before entering the water. Always swim near
  a lifeguard and never swim alone.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
