The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for choppy surf conditions, and Rip Currents near piers and jetties, which is in effect from 8 AM this morning through 8 PM this evening. * HAZARDS...Breaking waves of up to 4 to 5 feet today, especially during the afternoon. * TIMING...Through sunset. * LOCATION...The surf zone in the central Florida Atlantic waters from Flagler Beach to Jupiter Inlet. * POTENTIAL IMPACTS...Large breaking waves can knock you down and make you even more susceptible to becoming caught in the seaward pull of a Rip Current. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
