...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM EST THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach
Hazards Statement for rough surf and strong rip currents, which 
is in effect from 10 AM EST this morning through this evening. 

* HAZARDS...Large breaking waves of 5 to 7 feet will develop in
  the surf zone into the afternoon. Strong and dangerous rip
  currents will also be present.

* TIMING...These hazards will develop into the late morning and
  afternoon, with greatest threat of rip currents from 2 PM
  through 7 PM due to tidal effects.

* LOCATION...Across the surf zones of Volusia and northern Brevard
  counties. 

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...Rough surf and large breaking waves can
  knock you down and make you susceptible to seaward flowing rip
  currents. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
