Hazards Statement, which is in effect from 6 AM EDT Monday
through Monday evening. A High Rip Current Risk has also been
issued. This High Rip Current Risk is in effect from 6 AM EDT
Monday through Monday evening.
* LOCATIONS...Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover.
* TIMING...From 6 AM EDT Monday through Monday evening.
* SURF ZONE IMPACTS...Very strong rip currents will be dangerous
to anyone who enters the surf. In addition, a strong north to
south longshore current will develop.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
There is a high risk of rip currents. Life threatening rip
currents are likely in the surf zone.Heed the advice of
lifeguards, beach patrol flags and signs.
If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain
calm, do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.
Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip
currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. Often, if the
longshore current is strong enough, it will sweep swimmers off
their feet, making it difficult to return to shore.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to
1 PM EDT this afternoon.
* LOCATIONS...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington.
* TIMING...From 10 AM this morning to 1 PM EDT this afternoon.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...North of the Cape Fear Memorial
Bridge...portions of Battleship Road is covered. The westbound
lane of USS North Carolina Road is covered with water up to 1/2
foot deep. Portions of Water Street of downtown Wilmington will
see 1/4 to 1/2 foot deep water. In addition, portions of River
Road south of Wilmington will see partial water coverage.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that weak onshore winds and
high astronomical tides due to the New Moon Cycle, will combine
to generate minor coastal flooding of low lying areas along the
Lower Cape Fear River from Wilmington south.

2 AM EDT Tuesday.
* LOCATIONS...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington.
* TIMING...From 10 PM this evening to 2 AM EDT Tuesday.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Water is 4 to 10 inches deep on the
lowest parts of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road.
Water begins to spread on to River Road about a quarter mile
south of The Cape Boulevard. In downtown Wilmington...water
covers more than a block of Water Street near Market Street with
2 to 5 inches of water just south of Market Street.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

will be moderate strength, and therefore Beach Hazard Statement
