The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Elk County in southeastern Kansas...

* Until 745 AM CDT.

* At 149 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area. Radar estimated rainfall of 3 
  to 4 inches occurred in the past hour northwest of Howard. This 
  will cause rapid rises in Rock Creek, Pawpaw Creek and Elk River. 
  Additional thunderstorms with heavy rain is likely across all of 
  the warned area. 
  
  Flash flooding in areas with the heaviest rainfall is expected to 
begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Howard, Moline, Longton, Grenola and Elk Falls. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

CDT...

The heavy rain has ended and the threat for rapidly rising water 
has diminished. Thus the flash flood warning will be allowed to 
expire. However a flood warning will remain in effect as multiple 
county roads remain impassible due to high water. Please continue to 
heed any remaining road closures.
