...A major snowstorm is on the way for portions of our area on 
Wednesday...

.Unfortunately, a major nor'easter will be intensifying rapidly
Wednesday afternoon along the New Jersey coast. It is expected to
produce heavy wet snow for eastern Pennsylvania and portions New 
Jersey Wednesday. Highest amounts should be in the hilly areas. 
While this storm is still in watch phase, we recommend everyone 
with activities in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey to have 
contingency plans for altering travel and how to handle possible 
power related impacts. These plans can then be applied once 
warnings are issued, which will express more confidence in this 
oncoming probable very high impact event. Wednesday may be a good
day to just stay home and be safe.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on difficult travel conditions at
  times, including during both commutes on Wednesday. Significant
  reductions in visibility are likely. Snow should begin Tuesday
  night with slushy accumulations by dawn Wednesday. There may be
  a brief change to rain during the early morning daylight hours 
  but precipitation should change back to snow by midday and all 
  heavily for several hours during midday and the afternoon with 1
  inch per hour rates. Wind gusts to 45 MPH will be possible in

  power outages. So while there is still uncertainty, strong 
  consideration should be given to contingency plans should a

  probably accumulate at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour for
  several hours, especially during Wednesday afternoon and
  evening. Power outages may develop from newly broken tree limbs
  or from uprooted trees in the softened ground, especially where
  6 inches or more accumulates on the branches. This could become
  a dangerous situation and contingency plans should be developed
  for altering activities as a high impact major snow storm is
  expected Wednesday. If and when warnings are issued, those
  contingency plans can be implemented. We recommend following the
  advice of local officials and this may be a good day to just stay
  home, to ensure safety.

...A dangerous wet snow storm will have high impact and potential
for numerous new power outages and some tree damage from eastern 
Pennsylvania into northern New Jersey...

.A compact but powerful nor'easter will skirt the New Jersey 
coast on Wednesday, producing periods of heavy precipitation. All
locations along and west of the Interstate 95 corridor are 
vulnerable to heavy snow, with the greatest uncertainty within 20 
miles either side of Interstate 95. Otherwise, there is very high 
confidence that this storm will make travel difficult or nearly 
impossible at times, across much of eastern Pennsylvania and 
northern New Jersey, basically from near Philadelphia, west and 
north to the New York state border and beyond. Highest snow 
accumulations will be in the hilly areas. Unnecessary travel is 
not recommended Wednesday. Thereafter, communities will need 
Wednesday night and Thursday morning to dig out. Caution is 
advised for those with heart problems as over exertion removing 
wet snow could prompt a heart attack.

  inches, with localized amounts up to 11 inches, are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central and northern New Jersey and 
  southeast Pennsylvania.

* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 3 AM EST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on difficult travel conditions,
  including during the evening commute on Wednesday. Be prepared
  for significant reductions in visibility at times. Snowfall
  rates of nearly 2 inches an hour are expected at times from
  around 10 AM to 6 PM. Heavy wet snow could result in widespread
  power outages from breaking branches and possible trees 
  uprooting.

  expected.

* WHERE...Delaware and Philadelphia counties.

* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 3 AM EST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on difficult travel conditions, for
  both commutes on Wednesday, especially the evening commute. Be
  prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.
  There is considerable uncertainty regarding final snowfall
  totals in the Philadelphia area because of the possibility of 
  rain occuring at times during the morning. If this storm ends up
  with 6 to 8 inches of snow, power outages could become 
  numerous.
