EVENING...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect until 3:00 AM Monday.
* LOCATIONS...Coastal areas of Sussex County.
* TIMING...High tide on the Delaware oceanfront occurs between
11:30 PM and 12:30 AM. High tide on the back bays and along
Delaware Bay occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Minor flooding is anticipated around
the time of tonight's high tide. Up to one half foot of
saltwater inundation above ground level is possible in low-
lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Localized
roadway flooding is expected.
* WAVES...Wave heights on the ocean waters off the coast are
forecast to be 5 to 8 feet. Wave heights on Delaware Bay are
expected to be 3 to 5 feet.
* RIP CURRENT RISK...High through Monday.
* SURF ZONE IMPACTS...Very strong rip currents will be life
threatening to anyone who enters the surf. Dangerous breaking
waves of 4 to 7 feet can cause neck and spinal injuries,
affecting even the most able swimmers.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor Tidal flooding often results in some road
closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood.
Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to
costly repairs.
Visit the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service at
water.weather.gov/ahps for additional water level and flood impact
information for your local tide gauge.
