...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a High Rip
Current Risk, which is in effect from 8 AM EDT this morning
through this evening.

* TIMING...Strong rip currents will be possible all day but will
be maximized near the time of low tide in the late afternoon and
  early evening.

* IMPACTS...Long period swells from Subtropical Storm Leslie will
reach the east central Florida beaches this afternoon and
continue into early next week. The long period swells will
contribute to a high risk of rip currents with strong and
dangerous rip currents likely at east central Florida beaches.
  Rip currents can be life-threatening.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
