...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach
Hazards Statement for rough surf and dangerous rip currents, 
which is in effect through this evening. 

* HAZARDS...Rough breaking waves and rip currents.

* TIMING...Breaking waves will be dangerous all day while the
  threat of seaward flowing rip currents will be greatest from
  late morning through late afternoon due to tidal effects.

* LOCATION...All the beaches of east central Florida.

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...Volusia Ocean Rescue reported several dozen
  rescues on Sunday. Heavy breaking waves can knock you down and 
  make you susceptible to seaward flowing rip currents.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Only swim near a lifeguard. Never keep your back turned to the 
ocean as heavy breaking waves can suddenly slam into you and cause
severe injury. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following 
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or 
wave for help.
