The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for rough surf and dangerous rip currents, which is in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening. * HAZARDS...Rough surf and a moderate risk of life-threatening rip currents. * TIMING...through sunset. * LOCATION...all east central Florida beaches. * POTENTIAL IMPACTS...Rough surf will affect east central Florida beaches today due to breezy onshore flow and increasing ocean swell. The rough surf can knock you down and make you susceptible to being caught in a rip current. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. && $$ Sedlock
