...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach
Hazards Statement for dangerous rip currents and a strong
longshore current, which is in effect through this evening.

* HAZARDS...Breezy southerly winds will generate a strong
northward moving current along the coast, with dangerous rip
  currents along area beaches today.

* TIMING...Strong northward flowing currents will be present from
today through this evening, with the risk for rip currents being
particularly high from 11:00 AM through late this afternoon due
  to the outgoing tide.

* LOCATION...All of the east central Florida coast.

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...A northward flowing current can be strong
enough to knock you off the sandbar into deeper water, making
you more susceptible to dangerous rip currents along area
  beaches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
