* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northern Otero County in south central New Mexico...
* Until 400 PM MDT.
* At 202 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the
Soldier Canyon Burn Area. Flash flooding will continue across
the area..
Flood waters are likely to carry a thick flow of mud, ash, rock,
and other loose debris.
* Some locations that will continue to experience flooding include...
Mescalero and Soldier Canyon.
Some drainage basins impacted include Soldier Canyon and North
Fork Tularosa Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Heavy rainfall will cause extensive flash flooding of creeks,
streams, ditches, and roads in and downstream of the Soldier Canyon
burn area, including Mescalero. Water, mud, and debris may flow
across roads, including U.S. Highway 70. Roads and driveways may be
washed away in places. If you encounter flood waters...climb to
safety.
Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains
will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep
terrain, especially in and around these areas.

NORTHERN OTERO COUNTY...
At 242 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned
area. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
Highway 70 is reportedly closed in the mescalero area due water and
debris across the road. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will
continue to result in debris flow moving near Mescalero. The debris
flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.
Low lying areas of the tribal village may also be affected.
Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Mescalero...
and Soldier Canyon.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains
will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep
terrain, especially in and around these areas.
