732 WHUS44 KCRP 051654 CFWCRP Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX 1154 AM CDT Wed Sep 5 2018 ...MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW AND INCREASED SWELLS WILL RESULT IN COASTAL HAZARDS THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING... .Increased swells from Tropical Storm Gordon are continuing to move toward the Western Gulf of Mexico. Tide levels are already running around 1 foot above predicted levels, and the increased swells of around 3 feet with periods around 10 seconds will result in a high risk of rip currents through tonight and minor tidal overflow and coastal flooding overnight tonight and into Thursday morning, with coastal flooding worst around high tide overnight tonight. Conditions should improve by Thursday afternoon as swells diminish and tide levels ebb. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 10 PM this evening to noon CDT Thursday. A High Rip Current Risk has also been issued. This High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late tonight. * COASTAL FLOODING...Water levels expected to be around 2 feet mean sea level in many areas, especially a few hours on either side of high tide. High tide at Bob Hall Pier is at 310 AM CDT Thursday, with high tide at Port Aransas at 315 AM CDT Thursday. High tide at Matagorda Bay is at 623 AM CDT Thursday. * TIMING...through tonight for rip currents and from 10 PM through Noon for coastal flooding, especially a few hours before and after high tide. * IMPACTS...Driving conditions may be impacted. Items along the beach may need to be removed due to the incoming wave runup. Some beach access roads may become impacted due to water runup and may become impassible. Strong rip currents are expected along gulf-facing beaches. These rip currents can be life- threatening to anyone entering the surf, especially near piers and jetties. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
