Northern Cattaraugus County in western New York... Southern Erie County in western New York... Northern Chautauqua County in western New York... * Until 230 AM EDT. * At 1028 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Dunkirk, Fredonia, Springville, Westfield, Gowanda, Silver Creek, North Collins, Ashford Hollow, Chaffee and Lake Erie State Park. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 60 and 58. COUNTIES...
At 1229 AM EDT, trained spotters and local law enforcement reported
flash flooding in Fredonia, Forestville, Collins, North Collins,
Concord, and nearby locations. Flash flooding has caused numerous
road closures, with deep water and debris on some roadways.
Although the heavy rain has ended, some creeks and streams will
continue to rise in response to the heavy rain from earlier this
evening. Motorists should slow down and remain alert for flooding on
area roads, especially in low-lying areas and where creeks and
streams cross roadways.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
