137 WHUS44 KBRO 111438 CFWBRO Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service Brownsville TX 938 AM CDT Sun Mar 11 2018 ...Rip Current Risk will increase along the lower Texas Coastline later today... .The expected passage of a strong cold front late this afternoon along the lower Texas Coastline will result in a steadily increasing risk of hazardous rip currents for the beaches on South Padre Island and Boca Chica beach. Strong northerly winds moving in behind the front will maintain a high risk of rip currents starting late this afternoon continuing throughout tonight and into Monday morning. As the north winds diminish tomorrow afternoon and evening this high risk of rip currents will gradually diminish. Rip currents can be hazardous to even experienced swimmers. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore...which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins... jetties and piers. If you have to swim out of a rip current...swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible.
