The National Weather Service in SALT LAKE CITY has issued a High Wind Warning...which is in effect until 11 PM MDT this evening. The Wind Advisory is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...The Great Salt Lake Desert * WINDS...Northwest 30 to 40 with gusts in excess of 60 mph. * TIMING...Strong northwest winds behind a cold front will continue through the evening before diminishing toward midnight. * IMPACTS...Strong crosswinds may affect travel on Interstate 80. Visibilities may also be reduced in areas of blowing dust. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... The strong winds will create also dangerous boating conditions on area lakes. These winds will create very choppy water and generate waves which could capsize or swamp small craft. A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or is occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Vehicles, especially high profile vehicles, can be difficult to control at times in high winds.
