The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Kane County in southern Utah...
* Until 900 PM MDT
* At 602 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing
heavy rain over Johnson Canyon to the east of the town of Kanab.
Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
* Radar rainfall amounts indicate an average of 1.5 inches of
precipitation in a short period of time has fallen over the
headwaters of the canyon. Birch, Mineral, Lick Canyons are
included in the warning and are part of Johnson Canyon headwaters.
* Please stay away from this area through the evening and night time
hours.

SOUTHWESTERN KANE COUNTY...
At 753 PM MDT, Radar rainfall rates indicate that Johnson Canyon
received an average of 1.5 inches of precipitation over most of the
headwater area. As such, it is inferred that flash flooding is
taking place across a wide range of the canyon.
Currently thunderstorm activity has slowed over the area, but it
will take until later this evening and into the night time hours for
the flood to attenuate.
If you are traveling through the canyon this evening please be aware
of the danger.

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Kane County in southern Utah...
* Until midnight MDT
* At 854 PM MDT, Flash flooding continues through the Johnson Wash
Drainage. Observations have come in indicating that this is a
very large and dangerous flood. If you are in or planning on
traveling through Johnson Canyon this evening and through the
night, please avoid any low lying areas.
* Earlier rainfall amounts indicated that the upper drainage
received up to 2+ inches of rainfall. This amount has produced
flash flooding.
* As a result of the magnitude of the flood, the initial warning was
extended to allow the large volume of water to move through the
system.
* If you can, avoid this canyon through the evening and night time
hours. If you are in Johnson Canyon be aware of the danger and
take actions to ensure for your safety.

SOUTHWESTERN KANE COUNTY...
At 1025 PM MDT, a large and dangerous flash flood had been reported
in the Johnson Wash drainage due to earlier heavy rain. Flood waters
will continue to make their way through this drainage through late
tonight. If you can, avoid this canyon through late tonight. If you
are in Johnson Canyon, be aware of the danger and take actions to
ensure our safety.
