107 WWUS75 KPIH 130929 NPWPIH URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Pocatello ID 329 AM MDT Thu Apr 13 2017 IDZ020-021-131730- /O.NEW.KPIH.WI.Y.0009.170413T1800Z-170414T0900Z/ Upper Snake River Plain-Lower Snake River Plain- Including the cities of Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Pocatello 329 AM MDT Thu Apr 13 2017 ...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 3 AM MDT FRIDAY... The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from noon today to 3 AM MDT Friday. * IMPACTS/TIMING...Wind will be strong enough to lift dust and reduce visibility, especially in the agricultural fields that are adjacent to Interstates 15 and 86, and U S Route 20. This will make driving hazardous, especially at the speed limit. Drivers need to slow down in a high wind situation and anticipate the sudden change of visibilty to near zero. The wind is expected to reach advisory threshold during the early afternoon in the western portion of the Snake River plain, then spread eastward during the mid-afternoon. The strong wind will also end from west to east across the Snake River plain, starting during the mid-evening and after midnight ending in the eastern side of the plain. * WINDS...Southwest wind of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to near 50 mph are likely for at least a couple of hours during the late afternoon and evening hours. * LOCATIONS...The Snake River plain, from just west of American Falls to the Rexburg area, including Pocatello, Blackfoot, the Fort Hall Reservation, Idaho Falls, and Rexburg. Blowing dust is mainly experienced in areas north of Idaho Falls to the other side of the town of Roberts. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A wind advisory means that winds of 30 mph are expected. Gusts over 45 mph are possible. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
