The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  East central Orange County in southeastern New York...

* Until 1015 PM EDT

* At 722 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have 
  already fallen...with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. 
  Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Monroe, West Point, Harriman, Kiryas Joel, Woodbury, Highland
  Falls, Fort Montgomery, Highland Mills and Central Valley.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
