937 WWUS76 KMTR 130857 NPWMTR URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area 157 AM PDT Fri Oct 13 2017 ...Gusty offshore winds return to high elevation locations Friday night into Saturday Afternoon... .North to northeast winds will ramp up rapidly late Friday evening and peak overnight Friday into early Saturday morning. The winds will be strongest over the highest elevations tapering down with decreasing height. Over the highest peaks and ridges, sustained winds are expected to exceed 35 mph with gusts up to or exceeding 50 mph. For other locations over 1000 feet, sustained winds will generally range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts 30 to 40 mph. The strongest winds are forecast for the North Bay Mountains and the Diablo Range/East Bay Hills. Elsewhere, weaker but still breezy to occasionally gusty winds can be expected. The winds will begin to subside late Saturday morning, remaining breezy to occasionally gusty until the mid to late afternoon. These dry, gusty offshore winds will bring critical fire weather conditions to these areas, so a Red Flag warning is also in effect. The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 5 PM PDT Saturday. * Location: North Bay Mountains and the Diablo Range primarily, with slightly weaker winds over the East Bay Hills. Other locations outside of the wind advisory will be breezy during the extent of the wind advisory, including the Santa Cruz mountains and localized areas in the North and East Bay valleys. * Winds: North to Northeast winds. Over the highest elevations... sustained winds up to or exceeding 35 mph, with gusts up to or exceeding 50 mph. For other ridges, peaks, and favored locations over 1000 feet... sustained 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up 30 to 40 mph. * Timing: Winds initially begin to increase late Friday evening, around 11PM. Winds will ramp up through the early overnight hours then peak from around 3AM to 9AM. Winds will then gradually decrease through the mid to late morning, before dissipating into the afternoon.
