STRONG RIP CURRENTS WILL ALSO OCCUR NEAR PIERS...JETTIES AND REEFS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS ROUGH SURF AND LONGSHORE CURRENTS CREATE LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS IN THE SURF ZONE. LONGSHORE CURRENTS COMMONLY OCCUR WHEN WAVES APPROACH THE SHORELINE AT AN ANGLE. THEY OFTEN PRODUCE RIP CURRENTS NEAR JETTIES...PIERS AND REEFS.
