warned area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen, and
another inch or two will be possible. Flash flooding is expected
to begin shortly, especially on low lying county roads.

AND EFFINGHAM COUNTIES...
At 1228 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated rain continues to move
through southeast Illinois. The heaviest rainfall so far was close
the I-70 corridor, where totals of 3 to 5 inches have occurred since
yesterday afternoon. Further south, amounts of closer to 2 inches
were estimated by radar from around Flora and Olney northeast to
Robinson. Several area roads have standing water on them, and parts
of state highways 1 and 250 in Lawrence County were closed due to
the flooding.
Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Effingham, Olney, Robinson, Flora, Lawrenceville, Marshall, Newton,
Toledo, Sumner, Casey, Altamont, Neoga, Teutopolis, Greenup, Oblong,
Palestine, Martinsville, Louisville, Clay City and Watson.
Additional rainfall amounts of a quarter to half inch are
possible through this afternoon in the warned area.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 57 between mile markers 142 and 179.
Interstate 70 between mile markers 79 and 154.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.
Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

Flooding continues to be a problem in many areas, but a rapid
increase in water levels is not anticipated. Because of the lack of
flash flooding expected, this warning was converted to an areal
flood warning, which will be in effect until 3:30 pm Friday.
Please continue to heed any road closures.
