The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  The island of Kauai in Kauai County

* Until 500 PM HST

* At 204 PM HST, radar and rain gages indicated heavy rain over 
  north Kauai near Wainiha and within the Hanalei River basin. The 
  Hanalei River water level is expected to rise significantly and is 
  may reach levels that will result in the closure of Kuhio Highway 
  near the Hanalei Bridge. Streams and rivers on east Kauai, such as 
  Wailua River, will also rise and make low water crossings on Loop 
  Road impassable. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue through 
  the afternoon hours and may spread westward into the leeward 
  sections of the island.

* This warning includes the entire island of Kauai.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 500 PM HST FOR THE
ISLAND OF KAUAI IN KAUAI COUNTY...

At 257 PM HST...heavy rain continues to fall over the island. The 
USGS gage on Hanalei River showed a spike to levels well above what 
is needed to close Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei Bridge. On east 
Kauai, low water crossings on Loop Road at Wailua River are 
inundated. Avoid unnecessary travel over east and north Kauai.

This warning includes the entire island of Kauai.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 500 PM HST FOR THE
ISLAND OF KAUAI IN KAUAI COUNTY...

At 400 PM HST...the Kauai Department of Emergency Management 
reported that Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei Bridge was closed at 
335 PM HST. Radar indicated that rainfall has eased over the island 
but runoff and stream levels remain high and will likely remain so 
for the next several hours.

This warning includes the entire island of Kauai.

* At 445 PM HST, radar showed that rainfall has diminished over 
  Kauai. However, emergency management reported that Kuhio Highway 
  remains closed near the Hanalei Bridge. Runoff and stream levels 
  also remain high over other areas of north and east Kauai, such as 
  South Fork Wailua River which rose 6 feet over the past hour. 

* This warning includes the entire island of Kauai.

level trends down.
