The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southern Elbert County in northeastern Georgia...

* Until 400 PM EDT

* At 100 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain encroaching upon Elbert county.  Additional rounds of 
  heavy rainfall are expected the afternoon, and given this 
  morning's heavy rain from around Elberton and points southward, 
  flooding of roads, and streams rising to above bankfull levels, 
  will be possible.

  Flooding may develop on, but not be limited to roads along parts 
of Chastain and Col Dixon Roads. Flooding along River Road near 
Falling Creek will be possible as well.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Elberton, Nancy Hart State Park, Middleton, Lake Strom Thurmond,
  Russell State Park, Lake Russell, Fortsonia, Sweet City, Rice Town
  and Ruckersville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.

When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 400 PM EDT FOR
SOUTHEASTERN ELBERT COUNTY...

At 205 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that the heaviest storms have 
moved east of the warned area, with rainfall totals as much as 4 
inches across southern parts of Elbert County. Locally excessive 
runoff will continue through mid-afternoon all across the small 
drainages of the Broad River and Lake Russell, again mainly south of 
Elberton, Carlton and Russell Dam.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 400 PM EDT FOR
SOUTHEASTERN ELBERT COUNTY...

At 323 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that rain had ended across 
the warned area, but runoff will continue through late afternoon.
Continue to be wary of river and stream rises across the lower Broad 
and Lake Russell basins.  The warning is expected to expire on 
schedule.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall may cause flooding of small 
creeks and streams, country roads, as well as farmland, drainages, 
and other low-lying areas.
