The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 8 PM EST this evening. * Location...the south coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. This includes Cape Cod and the Islands along with the cities and towns of Fall River, New Bedford, Mattapoisett, Chatham, Falmouth, Provincetown, Vineyard Haven, Nantucket, Narragansett, Westerly, Newport, and New Shoreham. * Winds...Southeast shifting to southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * Timing...late this morning into the afternoon and early this evening. Greatest risk for strong winds will occur in heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms during this time including when winds shift from southeast to southwest later this afternoon. * Impacts...Winds this strong are capable of downing small tree limbs and branches, possibly causing isolated power outages. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph are expected, with gusts between 46 to 57 mph.
